Aldbourne man to support three charities in Three Peaks Challenge
Forty-eight-year-old Paul Goodge will tackle the peaks from north to south, starting with Ben Nevis, then Scafell Pike and ending at Snowdon.
He intends to scale the three highest mountains in England, Scotland, and Wales respectively in less than 24 hours in order to raise £,3000 for his chosen charities.
Mr Goodge’s challenge will begin at the foot of Ben Nevis on the morning of September 15.
Dressed in thick clothing, and equipped with survival essentials such as compasses, torches and first aid kits, he will begin the demanding ascent that will finish at the summit - 1,344m above sea level – approximately five hours later.
Once back down and following a 248-mile drive, he will then start to scale the notoriously steep and rocky Scafell Pike in the Lake District.
He should take around four and a half hours to reach the summit, which is 978m above sea level.
Following a further 212-mile drive Mr Goodge will reach Snowdon at around 3am on September 16, facing a daunting 1,085m climb.
The Snowdon climb should take around four hours.
Mr Goodge, a professional project manager, said: “Once I’ve finished I know it will have been fun: it’s just the 24 hours prior to that... I’m treating it as a project of course, with Kendall Mint cake as my main risk mitigation.
“The three charities mean a lot to me, so all support will be most welcome.”
