Aldermaston lock gates craned away today as part of restoration work

Aldermaston lock was drained this week by the Canal and River Trust to allow restoration work and, by the end of the month, people will be able to inspect it at very close quarters.
Aldermaston lock has seen a flurry of activity this week, due to restoration work being carried out by the Canal and River Trust on the Kennet and Avon Canal.
On Tuesday, divers went into the canal (pictured) to create a dam, prior to Aldermaston lock chamber being drained on Wednesday.
Today, (Monday), a 100-tonne crane will lift out the old lock gates, (pictured) which are to be repaired.
On Saturday, January 31, the drained lock chamber will be open to the public, who will be able to walk down into it between 10am and 3pm, with several experts on hand to answer any questions.
Parking will be available at Aldermaston Wharf, Padworth, Reading, RG7 4JS.
