Aldermaston skate ramp to be removed

The skate ramp in Aldermaston's village recreation ground is to be removed, following a vote by the local parish council.

This follows a lengthy debate over the future of the facility, which has fallen into a poor condition in recent times.

Early in 2021, the council was forced to close the ramp outright, after a number of holes appeared in its surface.

Councillors contacted specialists regarding the potential replacement of the ramp, but the prices quoted - reportedly in excess of £25,000 - were deemed beyond the council's means.

Any repair, meanwhile, would only make the ramp usable for a few more years.

At July's meeting of the parish council, the decision was taken to condemn the ramp.

Alternative options - including a replacement ramp - were rejected.

A spokesperson for the council said: "We recognise this decision will upset several parishioners, but it seems a prudent reflection on financial reality."
