Aldermaston Wharf set for development
ALDERMASTON Wharf is set to become the first site in the country to be regenerated by a new partnership between British Waterways and a private developer.
H2O Urban, which is owned and managed by British Waterways and development company Bloc, has gained planning permission to transform the site surrounding The Kennet and Avon Canal Visitor Centre.
The development, which will be H2O Urban’s first in the country, includes the construction of 11 two, three and four-bedroom properties within three buildings in Wharf Side.
The organisation had originally proposed building 14 properties but this was revised.
The plans also includes the demolition of existing garages and garden walls and the relocation of the visitor centre car park and pumping station, making it a focal point for the new development.
However construction cannot start until samples of the external materials to be used in the development have been submitted to and approved by West Berkshire Council.
Other conditions also apply, such as construction must start within three years from the permission date.
