Aldermaston woman died after horse fell on her, inquest reveals

Sarah Neal, aged 35, of Ravenswing Residential Park, where she worked as an office administrator, died on January 17, while riding her horse in fields close to stables in Back Lane.
North East Hampshire coroner, Andrew Bradley, said a post mortem established the cause of death as severe chest crush injuries.
He added Ms Neal was not wearing a hard hat at the time of the incident. A blood test had established there was no evidence of alcohol, or drugs present in her blood.
Mr Bradley established that Ms Neal had been an experienced rider and wanted to make a return to horse riding, following hip and knee problems.
Her friend, Margit Kuhlamann, said she met Ms Neal at the stables at around 6.30pm on January 17, where they initially prepared feeds for their four horses.
After Ms Kuhlamann had tacked up two of the horses, they set off for a ride, with Ms Kuhlamann riding bareback.
“It was January weather, very cold, with frosty ground, so we decided to ride on a field rather than tracks, as they were slippery,” said Ms Kuhlamann.
After riding around the field several times, including trotting and a controlled canter, they headed back towards the stables down a grassy track, with Ms Neal riding behind Ms Kuhlamann.
Ms Kuhlamann said she turned around to see her friend and the horse she had been riding were suddenly she said: “Upside down,” :
“I saw Sarah on the ground,” she said, adding Ms Neal was not responding.
Mr Bradley added: “I got the impression she was trying to turn the horse, it was probably going a bit faster than she wanted to go.”
Ms Kuhlamann telephoned the emergency services and also a friend, Vanessa Nichols, who lives in Back Lane, for help.
Ms Nichols, who was also at the inquest, told the court she had known Ms Neal for 17 years, and had ran to try and help.
”I found Sarah on her back, her mouth opening and closing,” she said.
Both friends followed instructions from a paramedic by telephone, including administering artificial respiration (CPR), before paramedics arrived to take over, but Ms Neal failed to regain consciousness.
A verdict of accidental death was recorded.
