Aldworth's playground swings into action
The new equipment, which includes infant swings, a basket swing, a slide, climbing frame and rope bridge, was officially opened by the landowner Lord Iliffe on Saturday, watched by a crowd of 100 residents, children and families.
It cost in the region of £28,000, with funding granted by Greenham Common Trust, Vibrant Village, the National Grid, West Berks Members Bid, Aldworth Parish Council, Aldworth Saturday Market and the Corn Exchange, Newbury, alongside local fundraising and donations.
Key organisers included Sally McEwan and Claire Smith, who said: “It’s a brilliant new playground. We have never had a playground.
"We don’t have a school; we don’t have a shop. We just wanted somewhere that the children could walk to.
"There’s a lot of young children in the village and whenever they wanted to go to the park we had to get in the car and drive – that’s why we did it.”
The playground is located next to Aldworth Village Hall.
