All A34 lanes re-opened after car transporter crash causes day of traffic mayhem

At about 11.10pm last night a car transporter overturned on the A34 (Whitchurch) between Bullington Cross and A343 at Highclere, spilling seven Land Rovers across the carriageway.
The incident meant that the road was closed overnight and throughout most the today, causing queueing traffic in all directions.
At 11.50am lane one of the southbound carriageway was re-opened and at 1.40pm, lane one of the northbound carriageway was re-opened.
The road was then fully opened just before 4pm.
The Highways Agency said it closed the road all morning as sections of the north and southbound carriageway had been damaged and needed to be resurfaced, about 50L of spilt fuel needed clearing up and about 100 metres of barrier in the central reservation also need repairing before the road could be safely re-opened to traffic.
The 29-year-old man driving the vehicle has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, driving with an insecure load and causing danger to other road users.
He has been bailed until Monday, November 26 pending further enquiries.
