Engineering works which caused trains between Newbury and Reading to be cancelled or severely delayed have ended.
A Network Rail spokesperson said: “During maintenance work on the Westbury to Newbury line this morning, it was detected that a slight movement of part of the track had occurred. To ensure the safety of passengers, this section of track required immediate work to move it back into position.
“We apologise to passengers for the inconvenience caused by this work, but the safety of the public must always be our highest priority.”
Although the work has now finished, there are residual delays on some routes.
Great Western Railway said that train services running through stations from Pewsey to Reading are returning to normal but some services may still be delayed by up to 20 mins.
Great Western Railway said that the disruption is expected to last until 2pm.
The disruption started at around 5.45am.
