Newbury Michaelmas Fair – picture special: All the fun of the fair at Northcroft
Rain didn’t stop thousands of thrill-seekers heading out for the annual visit to the fair.
Huge crowds gathered on Goldwell Park last weekend as the Michaelmas Fair returned to Newbury.
There were thrills and squeals aplenty from the moment Newbury mayor, Nigel Foot, officially opened the fair on Wednesday afternoon.
He enjoyed a bumpy ride on the dodgems, where he was joined by the mayoress Sarah Slack, fellow Newbury town councillor Gary Norman and Newbury town crier Brian Sylvester.
The four-day extravaganza at Northcroft also saw hundreds of people turn out after the storms on Friday, to see the grand fireworks finale.
And from the tiniest tots enjoying the helter skelter and the trampolines to the adreneline junkies flying through the skies in the biggest of rides, there was smiles and laughter from everyone. And the odd toffee apple and bag of candy floss to take home afterwards too.
The fair dates back to the 17th century when farm workers turned up to seek employment, but is now held as a funfair.
