All the fun of the fetes

Several villages and schools across West Berkshire are gearing up to host summer fetes this weekend

THERE are fetes galore in and around West Berkshire this weekend and the good news is the weather forecast is dry with temperatures expected to reach highs of 22 degrees Celsius.

The festivities kick off in Compton today (Saturday) with the village annual fete which starts at 10.30am until noon.

The event will be held in the recreation ground and is in aid of village hall.

Activities include a vintage car and motorcycle exhibition, a funfair, fun run and a car boot sale.

Refreshments will include a real ale bar and barbecue.

Hermitage Summer Fayre also returns today with stalls, tombolas, beer and much more.

The event, which runs from noon to 3pm, is organised by the Hermitage School PTA and is held at Hermitage Primary School, Hampstead Norreys Road.

Spurcroft School summer fete in Thatcham will also take place from noon until 3pm today with a world theme.

The event will include a balloon release and a fancy dress competition as well as a barbecue, various stalls and dancing displays from the pupils at the school.

Later in the day visitors will be welcomed to the Hungerford Playgroup Fun Day at Croft Hall in The Croft between 1pm and 4pm.

In North Hampshire, there will be a parade led by the East Woodhay Silver band at the Woolton Hill fete at 1.50pm.

The fete, which will be held at St Thomas church hall, will then open at 2pm with stalls, children's attractions and refreshments.

And tomorrow (Sunday) the fun continues as the Mary Hare Grammar School in Snelsmore, Newbury, will hold its annual summer fete between 10am and 4pm with stalls, games and refreshments.

All are welcome.
