Mr Sharma, whose constituency includes the parishes of Pangbourne, Purley-on-Thames, Tidmarsh, Sulham, Theale and Tilehurst, will have responsibility for the party’s work and engagement with ethnic minority communities.
Mr Sharma said: “I was honoured to be asked by the Prime Minister to take on this role and look forward to working closely with party chairmen Lord Andrew Feldman and the Right Honourable MP for Grant Shapps MP, as well as the team at number ten Downing Street.”
Mr Shapps, MP for Welwyn Hatfield, Hertfordshire, added: “This is a key role in enhancing our engagement and connection with black minority ethnic communities and I am very pleased that Alok agreed to take on this role.”
