Along came a spider
Shaw man Les Pocklington has created a sculpture of Miss Muffet and the spider from hundreds of seashells
THIS fabulous creation, made from hundreds of seashells, is the latest brainchild of retired businessman Les Pocklington.
Miss Muffet and the spider was built by 71-year-old Mr Pocklington, of Long Lane, Shaw, for his granddaughter Finley (pictured).
Mr Pocklington had also hoped to exhibit the sculpture at next month's Royal County of Berkshire Show, having displayed a ‘princess carriage' also made from shells at last year's event.
However, said Mr Pocklington: “We've been told that there will be no hobbies tent this year doe to lack of a sponsor. The exhibitors were told that they had to pay for their own insurance bills and so on and couldn't afford it. It's a pity because I think it's important to encourage children to be creative.”
Mr Pocklington's labours were not in vain, however.
Apart from delighting his granddaughter, Miss Muffet and the spider will be on display at the Chapel Row Fayre in Bucklebury tomorrow (Saturday).
County show organisers were unavailable for comment.
