Ambulance service tribute to Thatcham man killed in road crash
Fifty-six year-old Andrew Evans died at the Royal Berkshire Hospital after a crash between a refuse truck, a Subaru and a Ford Focus last Wednesday (September 11).
He had been travelling as a passenger in the Subaru on the A4074 in Woodcote when the accident occurred.
Mr Evans joined South Central Ambulance Service 20-years-ago.
A statement on behalf of the service said: “Andrew, or Andy as he was known, dedicated twenty years to the Ambulance Service, initially working as a Patient Transport Care Assistant and later as an Emergency Care Assistant.
“He spent the majority of his career working from Newbury Ambulance Station, with a short period of time at Reading.
“Andy’s sudden and tragic passing has been a deeply saddening experience for his friends and colleagues, who describe knowing and working with him as a privilege and an honour.
“Andy was an extremely valued and respected member of the team.
“He will be remembered for his easy-going personality, common sense approach and good sense of humour.
“He was always singing and whistling and was an all-round wonderfully kind-hearted man who put a smile on people’s faces. Indeed, Andy was a true gentleman, never allowing the female members of staff to carry the response bags or equipment – even when they protested.
“Andy was also very modest and never took praise for himself. He was very much a team player. He was a truly dedicated ambulance man.
“Andy will always be in our hearts and he will be fondly missed.”
