People gathered at the AWE sites in Burghfield and Aldermaston yesterday (Thursday) for the annual Act of Remembrance ahead of this weekend’s Remembrance Sunday, writes Sienna Batterton.

A two-minute silence was observed, broken only by the bugler sounding Reveille after the familiar words of the Exhortation.

Attending the ceremony were serving, reservist and veteran members of the Armed and Cadet Forces, who were joined by the AWE emergency services, executive directors and employees.

The Epitaph was recited, and wreaths and crosses of Remembrance were laid.

AWE said the ceremony “honours and commemorates all those who have served, sacrificed, and played a crucial role in the country’s safety and security”.
