Highclere Castle to stage history festival to mark 100 years since the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun

Highclere Castle will be staging a two-day Egyptian themed history festival next month to mark one hundred years since the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun.

The weekend event on October 7 and 8 will feature tours of the Egyptian exhibition, camels on view in front of the castle, historical re-enactors, a vintage car display, costume displays and a look-a-like Winston Churchill.

Two Egyptology talks will take place on the two days, the first by The Countess of Carnarvon and the second by renowned Egyptologist Joann Fletcher, a professor of archaeology at the University of York.

There will also be a history of flight tent featuring images from Geoffrey de Havailland’s first flight from Highclere in 1910.

Guests will be able to learn how to dance in the 1920s style, taught by the renowned vintage event entertainers, The Gatsby Girls, and there will be children’s activities including story-telling and lawn games.
