The 30-year-old, of Caistor Close, Calcot, is charged with being in charge of a Skoda on the A4 at Beenham Hill on Sunday, August 13, after drinking more than the legal limit.

Tests are said to have shown 70mcg of alcohol per 100ml of breath in his system – double the legal limit of 30mcg.

Magistrates adjourned the case until a later date, when Mr Prathapan will be expected to appear and to enter a plea to the single charge.

He was meanwhile granted unconditional bail.
