TiDY Salon in Bartholomew Street, Newbury, turns vandal attack into work of art

A Newbury salon turned a recently smashed window into a colourful Hallowe’en mural, writes Harry Craig.

The TiDy Salon was subject to a vandalism attack over the summer, when its shopfront windows were repeatedly smashed with a brick.

However, the shop saw this as an opportunity to decorate and spread some spooky Hallowe’en joy on Newbury’s Bartholomew Street.

It turned one of the points of impact into a spider’s web, and the other two smash marks were used as the letter ‘O’ in ‘BOO’ and ‘SPOOKY’.

The mural extended far beyond this, however, to create an impressive piece of Hallowe’en-themed art, featuring ghosts, pumpkins, tombstones, bats and witches.

One customer said: “I am so impressed by the way they have turned a recent vandalism attack on their street-front window into a wonderful Hallowe’en feature.”

TiDy Salon was overjoyed with the attention this had received, stating: “Some people didn’t even realise it was a broken window!”
