Anneka Rice flies in to Farnborough garden fundraiser
Anneka dropped in on The Old Rectory in Farnborough, north of Chieveley and met owners, Caroline and Michael Todhunter, who have opened their garden for charity for over 40 years and said it was the first time a visitor had arrived by helicopter.
After touring the garden, Anneka also met Jane Collins, Chief Executive of Marie Curie Cancer Care to which organisers, the National Garden Scheme (NGS) has donated over £6 million, for a chat over tea and homemade cakes.
“The National Gardens Festival Weekend combined all my favourite things - beautiful gardens, delicious cakes and flying above stunning countryside in a helicopter,” said Anneka, who flew by helicopter to visit five gardens in five counties to raise awareness of the National Gardens Scheme - which has gardens open every week until late September.
Last year (2012) , the scheme raised almost £2.2 million, donated to charities including Marie Curie Cancer Care, Macmillan Cancer Support , Help the Hospices , the Carers Trust and Parkinsons' UK. For more information visit www.ngs.org.uk.
