Annual fun run raises £1,000 for Young People and Children First
Chickens, cows and dinosaurs were spotted running for a good cause around Greenham Common at the weekend.
The Young People and Children First (YPACF) charity held its second annual fun run and walk on Sunday (February 26).
Families, friends and dogs created a fun atmosphere as they ran, walked and talked their way through the 3k course.
The event raised exactly £1,000, which will go towards a new window for a property that houses young people in need.
“It was a great way to support the charity,” said YPACF CEO Tracy Underwood.
“There were twice as many runners as last year and this is only the second year.
“The atmosphere was great.
“Our young people are really appreciative of the generosity. It can be very hard to accept help.
“But we support them with their physical, emotional and social health.”
YPACF homes young people who are vulnerable, homeless and are, or have been, a carer or in care themselves.
They stay in safe homes in West Berkshire where they can feel safe living with people with shared or similar experiences.
The young people, who receive support from live in supervisors who act as parent-like figures, recently enjoyed a half-term trip to Longleat Park and Blue Beetle Ceramics.
At Christmas, they received presents, hampers and cakes which was appreciated in what the charity said can be a really hard time for those in need.
YPACF said events like the fun run show the generosity of the community, which does not go unnoticed by the young people.
