Annual lunch marks festive season in Speen

More than 80 residents attended the event, now in its eighth year, held at Robert Sandilands Primary School on Saturday.
It is funded by proceeds from Speen’s annual village fete, which this raised more than £3,000 for the cause in June.
The lunch was prepared by Paul Knight of Fizz Catering, and pupils at the school offered a helping hand by serving homemade cakes and mince pies and acting as waiters and waitresses for the guests.
Meanwhile, entertainment was provided by singer and pianist, Carol Lesley, and the Robert Sandilands school choir.
Chairman of the Speen Fete Committee, Brian Nobes, said: “This is where Christmas starts for many people in Speen now.
“Everyone wants to help because it is so much fun, and is now a key event in many people's calendar.
“This year we have been supported by Greenham Common Trust and Waitrose, who have added us to their charity token system, which will allow us to add a little extra luxury for those members of our community who are not often given the recognition they deserve.
“A special thanks must also go to Mavis Brind for the beautiful table decorations.”
