The Halfway Inn, near Newbury, closes its doors
Another country pub has shut.
The Halfway Inn, located on the A4 in the hamlet of Halfway near Newbury, closed its doors yesterday (Tuesday).
The managers of the 18th-century pub, built on the site of a former toll house, said they are “heartbroken” by the decision, but said they can no longer afford to run the pub due to rising utility costs and staffing demands.
On Tuesday (October 3), staff announced the pub’s closure on its social media posting: “It is fair to say that during our time here, we have experienced both the highs and lows of running an independent business in the hospitality industry.
“However, the lows are far outweighing the highs and our dream has to come to an end.”
The post continued saying: “This all said, we will look back at our time at The Halfway Inn with pride and happiness, knowing that we made a lot of you happy during your visits.”
The pub’s management wishes to thank all their staff, new guests and returning visitors for their ongoing support.
