Anti-social behaviour order for Thatcham man

Robert Rae was issued a two-year order after persistently causing alarm, distress and disturbance to residents

A 36-YEAR-OLD man from Thatcham has been issued with an anti-social behaviour order (ASBO) which prohibits him from causing alarm or distress to residents or causing disturbance in Rotary Way or in any other part of the Kennet Heath Estate, Thatcham.

Robert Rae was given the two-year ASBO on Thursday, January 13 at West Berkshire Magistrates' Court, Newbury.

Police said that Mr Rae had regularly demonstrated a lack of concern and regard for others by his persistent offending and anti-social behaviour.

On the afternoon of Sunday, September 12, police received five 999 calls from residents living in Rotary Way, Urquhart Road and Battalion Way in Thatcham, who witnessed a violent altercation involving Mr Rae, who police say had a reputation on the estate of violent and threatening behaviour going back several years.

West Berkshire local police area commander, Supt Robin Rickard, said: “Anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in West Berkshire and Thames Valley Police and West Berkshire Council will ensure that people who commit anti-social behaviour are dealt with appropriately.

"The application of an ASBO is serious step however in cases such as this it is necessary to ensure that the public are protected”.
