Appeal for information about further alleged sexual abuse by disgraced ex Bradfield Southend GP Robin Borthwick

A man who was abused by a pedophile ex-GP is appealing for information about any further cases of alleged abuse.

The man, now 56, has instructed Leigh Day solicitors to make a legal claim after disgraced ex-Bradfield Southend GP Robin Borthwick sexually assaulted him between the ages of nine and 14.

Borthwick, 78, was a respected GP with surgeries in Calcot, Bradfield, Pangbourne and Theale in the 1970s and 80s.

Leigh Day is now appealing for information about any further alleged abuse Borthwick may be responsible for.

Leigh Day partner and head of abuse claims Alison Millar said: “Borthwick abused his position of trust and authority and, unfortunately, we believe there may be other survivors of his abuse or individuals with information that could help our client.”

In 2023, a jury at Reading Crown Court ruled Borthwick had sexually abused Leigh Day’s client, who was just nine years old when the abuse began, although he was never a patient of Borthwick’s.

But Borthwick was deemed unfit to stand trial and escaped punishment due to his advancing dementia.

The case against him proceeded as a ‘trial of facts’, in which the jury found he had groomed and abused a boy in his bedroom, car and surgery.

The solicitor’s firm is now asking that if you have any information or evidence that may help you contact amillar@leighday.co.uk or call 020 7650 1223.

All information will be treated on a private and confidential basis.

If you have been affected by sexual abuse, call the Rape Crisis England and Wales support line on 0808 500 2222.

The Samaritans can also be contacted on 116 123 or by emailing jo@samaritans.org.
