CCTV released in bid to catch man who impersonated a police officer to steal in Newbury
Police are searching for a man who impersonated a police officer to steal money in Newbury.
Thames Valley Police has released an image of a man they would like to speak to in connection with the incident.
The offender asked the victim to withdraw a large quantity of cash from the bank to help with a police investigation.
The offender then arranged for this money to be collected by a courier at approximately 1.50pm, which is when the money was handed over by the victim to the offender.
Investigating staff officer Sarah Bradshaw said: “I am appealing to anyone who recognises the person in the picture as they may have vital information to assist us with our enquiries.
“Additionally, we ask anyone with mobile phone, CCTV or dash-cam footage to get in touch with the force in case it has captured something which may assist this investigation.”
She added: “The police or bank would never ask you to withdraw cash and hand to a courier or the police.
“If you receive any calls like this we urge you to stay vigilant and if you do feel as though anything is suspicious, please report this to us.”
The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 9, at approximately 12pm in Old Bath Road.
