Apple Day and arts and leisure festival take place today (Sat)
Apple Day returns by popular demand and anyone with an abundance of apples is being encouraged to do something useful with them.
Why not bring them along to the Market Place from 9am until 4pm and have them turned into juice.
There will also be the chance to celebrate the fruit in a whole host of ways with apple cakes and goodies available to buy, an opportunity to have a chance to taste unusual heritage varieties and to find out more about Newbury’s very own apple varieties.
Thatcham Festival of Arts and Leisure also kicks off today.
This year’s festival has been extended by five days to accommodate the extra events that have been arranged.
The festival, which is now in its 12th year, will be opened by Thatcham mayor Mike Cole at 10am, kicking off 65 activities over 14 days.
The official opening will take place on Broadway Green, where a combined leisure and craft fair will also be held, with further stalls and activities in the parish hall, St Mary’s Church, and Priory Gardens.
