Apple day returns after storm caused cancellation
Apple Day will be returning to Newbury this weekend after its previous cancellation due to Storm Amy.
Last weekend’s winds meant the event could not go ahead, but it has now been rescheduled for this coming Saturday.
The annual event will be held from 9am to 2.30pm in Market Place, welcoming people to celebrate the seasonal harvest.
Visitors are again invited to enjoy all things apples through a number of activities on offer, including juice pressing, with lots of local varieties to choose from.
Organiser Rachel Haslam said: “The annual event helps bring our community together and is a fun opportunity to celebrate the abundance of apples we have around Newbury.”
Town crier Steve Wallis will be there to ring in the event.
The mayor David Harman will also be attending with mayoress Rosalind Harman from 11am to 11.30am.
People with spare apples at home are invited to take them along on the day for a chance to get them identified by an ‘apple expert’ and get juiced.
There will also be apple-themed cakes and savoury bakes on offer.
The day is run by a team of community volunteers and is sponsored by Greenham Trust and Newbury Town Council.
Apple Day has become a yearly tradition in the town since 2012, which marked the opening of Newbury’s three community orchards.
