Juicy! Apple Day to return to Newbury’s Market Place
All things apple is the plan for Newbury as an annual event returns – but there is not a smartphone in sight.
Market Place is the venue for the annual Apple Day, which has been held in the town since 2012.
Attractions include an electric scratter, a machine that crushes and pulps apples and pears to create juice and ciders.
A more low-tech solution is a press, which will allow all ages an opportunity to make their own juice.
People can take their own apples and pears to add to the juicing or ask an expert to identify the variety.
Other fruits used in the day come from gardens and orchids across the town and would otherwise have gone to landfill.
Volunteers will also get baking, creating a range of apple-themed goodies for people to try, with proceeds from the day going to cover costs and help fund next year’s event.
A website details more about the day and its events, appledayinnewbury.wordpress.com
The event runs from 9am to 3.30pm on Saturday, October 5. Entry is free, and the event is organised by volunteers.
