It’s as homely as Apple Pie at the Ship Inn

ON Saturday, September 16 Shipinnarts at Ashford Hill held another fun event – an Apple Pie Competition. “Such fun!” says Vanessa of the Shipinnarts team.

“Entrants brought their homemade pies along to be judged by Pam Kitch and Nigel Butler (two amazing cooks). The tables were dressed beautifully, with gold sashes and corn dollies and flowers. We had some wonderful helpers too.

“After much deliberation, first prize was awarded to Ursula Allam, who had never made a pie before, but top rated by the judges and also our lovely audience – congratulations Ursula. Ursula was presented with a beautiful apple shaped glass ornament.

“Second prize was awarded to Hazel O’Leary who made a blackcurrant and apple pie – well done Hazel!

“We then had a tasting and judging from the audience too.

“Twinduo, Alison (piano and voice) and Jane Pickering (saxophone) played some fabulous favourites from musicals and famous songs. They ended their performance with a Last Night of the Proms selection, while we all sang along and waved our flags. We ended with God Save The King which was very moving.”
