Arcing Thatcham power line spotted by dog walker

Firefighters cordon off area surrounding smoking line

AN overhead power line which had crashed down into hedges in Thatcham was spotted by a dog walker yesterday (Wed) evening).

One fire engine from Newbury was called at 9pm to a field and hedges at Huntington Gardens, after a dog walker heard crackling and spotted smoke from the arcing power line.

Firefighters discovered the smoking, sagging power line arcing into the ground.

A cordon was thrown around the area to ensure public safety.

No-one was hurt.

Firefighters isolated the line and checked for signs of fire, before handing the incident over to Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE) and left at 11pm.
