Are you looking to tune into romance?

Several events are taking place in West Berkshire this weekend to get people in the mood for Valentine's Day

PLENTY of people will be getting into the spirit of romance this weekend, in time for Valentine's Day.

For those looking to tune into romance, opera singer, Richard Stark, is set to woo shoppers in Newbury town centre tomorrow (Saturday) performing romantic classics in the Market Place as part of a free Valentine's themed event.

His musical performance starts at 10am and finishes at 2pm, and he will be accompanied by violinist, Andrew Hubbard.

Meanwhile, children will be icing their own Valentine cookies in the market square, and more fun will be provided by a balloon modeller so people can take home a Valentine balloon.

Newbury Racecourse is once again making its white bench for marriage proposals available this weekend, introduced last year for romantics to pop the question, although they have reported no takers as yet.

For those who have already popped the question, a Valentine's Day wedding fair will take place between 11am and 4pm on Sunday at the National Trust venue, Basildon Park, the romantic setting for the filming of Pride and Prejudice.

Bridal fashion shows will take place at 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Entry and parking is free and more details can be found by clicking the link below.

At Document House, Wharf Street, Newbury, a Traffic Light party will be held tonight (Friday) and tomorrow night(Saturday) where, upon arrival, you will be given a traffic light colour indicating your intentions for the evening - red for ‘don't bother me', yellow for ‘I might talk to you if I'm in the mood' and green for ‘Let's talk, I'm single to mingle!'

Red will be the theme of a charity fundraising Valentine's Day party on Monday afternoon (14) at Donnington Nursing Home, Newbury, with staff and guests dressed in red, and laundry assistant, Pam Diton, to dye her hair the same hue to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

The nursing home party will involve games and a raffle with red coloured prizes.

Residents - including Molly Anderson who reached her 101st birthday on Tuesday, February 8 - will be joined by guests from Thatcham Court nursing home

Newbury clock tower is also to be lit red on Monday.
