Are you running the Reading Half Marathon?
A MOTHER and son duo from Newbury and a married couple from Pangbourne are just four West Berkshire entrants taking part in next week's Reading Half Marathon.
Newbury Athletics Club members, Emma Carter and her son Phillip, will be running at the event on April 1 to raise money for Naomi House and Jacksplace hospices in Sutton Scotney, Hampshire.
Mrs Carter will be competing in the Reading Half Marathon, scheduled to start from Green Park at 10am, with Phillip, a year ten pupil at St Bartholomew's School, Newbury, taking part in the Green Park fun run, scheduled to start from Green Park at 8.30am.
Mrs Carter, who will also be running in the London Marathon next month, said: “I’ve been training three times a week; trying to fit it in around work and coaching has been a struggle. However, helping the charity keeps me motivated. The hospice is such a happy place and its nice that you can visit and actually see where your money goes too.”
Two newlyweds from Pangbourne will also be taking part in the half marathon as one of their 12 challenges in 2012.
Dawfydd and Rhianon Williams, who married in September last year, have already completed a number of challenges this year, including swimming the equivalent of a half marathon, to raise money for charity HOPEHIV.
Mr WIlliams, aged 28, said: “We decided to take part in the half marathon as part of our 12 in 12 challenge because it’s a local event. We’ve taken part the last three years for the Duchess Of Kent House hospice in TIlehurst, and this time I hope to go under the two hours mark.
“We’ve been running from Pangbourne to Reading in preparation for the run.”
