Army musicians play for Soldiers Charity

The cream of the Corps of Army Music's orchestral players will be performing at Arlington Arts, Snelsmore, on Tuesday, under the baton of the army’s principal director of music, Lt Col Bob Meldrum, to raise money for ABF The Soldiers’ Charity.Sinfonietta showcases a breadth of talent not often available to be enjoyed in concert due to the commitments of serving soldiers. For example, the Army Corps of Music recruits string players to fulfil its commitment to state events, but opportunities to perform as an orchestra can be limited. Sinfonietta gives this opportunity to perform repertoire at a level beyond what can be achieved in a single band. Drawn from the 22 bands of the corps, all serving soldiers, Sinfonietta’s string players are drawn mainly from the London-based State Bands of the Household Cavalry, Royal Artillery and Foot Guards while brass, woodwind and percussion specialists hail from as far afield as the Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, based in Edinburgh. The soloists performing at Arlington Arts are Lance Cpl Alan Shellard of the Grenadier Guards and Lance Cpl Rebecca White of the Welsh Guards.
