Arrest warrant issued for Thatcham sexual predator Niall Tutt

AN arrest warrant has been issued for a man who was convicted in his absence of sexually assaulting a teenage girl.

At a previous hearing, Niall Tutt had pleaded not guilty to a single charge of sexual touching, which happened in Thatcham on a specific date in 2021.

He was released on bail while a trial was scheduled at Reading Crown Court.

But the 24-year-old from Thatcham did not turn up for the start on Monday, October 21.

When no explanation was offered, Judge James Bromige ruled the hearing would proceed in his absence.

Steve Molloy, prosecuting, said Tutt had sexually assaulted the girl, then aged 16, by pushing his finger or thumb between her buttocks and pressing it against her rectum through her clothing.

The following day, the court heard, he sent her a message, stating: “I’m so sorry about yesterday - it was wicked of me to violate you like that.

“Please forgive me.”

But when confronted by the victim’s father, said Mr Molloy, Tutt responded with a message stating: “I’ll rape her in front of you, then kill you both.”

When interviewed by police, the court heard, Tutt “literally exercised his right to silence, saying nothing to the officers.”

However, one of them noted that someone had sent Mr Tutt a text message stating: “You’re sick.”

Mr Tutt had replied: “I don’t know what the problem is - she’s legal.”

John Lucas, defending, suggested his absent client’s motivation may not have been sexual but drunken mischief.

But the jury didn’t agree.

After several days’ deliberation, they agreed, by a majority verdict, that Tutt, who has recently been living in Gads Hill, Gillingham in Kent, was guilty.

Judge Bromige issued a warrant for Tutt’s immediate arrest so that he can be sentenced later on a date to be fixed.
