Arson ruled out as cause of Speen wheelie bin fire
According to Richard Cooper, a firefighter with Green Watch at Newbury Fire Station, one pump was called at 10.30pm to Sutton Road where a hosereel was used to extinguish the blaze.
After handing the incident over to Thames Valley Police, firefighters left the scene after about 20 minutes.
Thames Valley police have since confirmed that the fire was started accidentally and was not being treated as suspicious.
In a separate and unrelated incident earlier that evening, at 5.45pm, one pump from Newbury was also called to a tree on fire on the Kennet and Avon canal towpath between Thatcham and Reading.
Firefighters accessed the canal at Thatcham Railway Station and walked about a mile to get to the fire, which had spread to bushes and shrubs in a 6ft area.
Firefighters used buckets of water to extinguish the blaze and left the scene after 20 minutes and after recording the cause as accidental.
