A high street store will soon be leaving the town centre.

Framemakers, a shop selling artwork and bespoke frames in Northbrook Street, has been trading in Newbury for around 40 years.

But the company has announced it will be closing this branch when its lease ends and relocating to Marlborough from Saturday, March 1.

Director Louise Thatcher said: “It's very sad that the shop’s closing. But retail is different now.

“We do a lot of contract work, so it’s not really going to affect us in any way.

“We’ve wound the business down considerably. I’ve got other things that I want to do. It’s just a natural progression really.”

The company currently has a branch in Marlborough High Street, where it is headquartered.

It shut its other branches in Basingstoke and Salisbury in 2023.

The Newbury shop reassured customers all framing orders will be home delivered once completed.

The company first opened a shop in The Arcade, the alleyway between Market Place and Bartholomew Street, before moving into the Kennet Shopping centre.

It then relocated to Northbrook Street.

It has not yet been confirmed what business will occupy the unit when it becomes vacant.
