Ashampstead mother's recipe for success
Kate Saunders, aged 43, is one of eight mothers to make it to the final, so far sailing through with her business venture Blackberry Cottage Fayre.
More than 1,200 people entered the competition.
The mother-of-two established the company in September 2011 in her family kitchen after numerous friends complained that their children wouldn’t eat vegetables.
Ms Saunders said: “They all like biscuits, cakes, brownies. I made a chocolate spinach brownie and the children devoured them.”
Now, less than a year later she is working less as a sports massage therapist to dedicating more of her time baking and running courses to meet popular demand.
“I think it’s because I’m so unique and unusual.
“People are really talking about me,” she said.
“It’s given me such credence in the industry.”
She added: “We have all heard of carrot cake.
“We have taken it one step further and have included spinach, parsnip, butternut squash, swede and more.”
The cakes have even hit a niche slimming market, with Ms Saunders creating some cakes with no sugar or butter, and to meet other dietary requirements.
She grows the majority of ingredients in her own back garden, which houses a large vegetable patch and an area for chickens to brood.
The final of Mumpreneur UK is being held on September 30 at the Heart of England conference and events centre in Coventry, with judges including the editor of Glamour magazine, Jo Elvin.
