Attempted abduction investigated

Police say recent Woolhampton incident was not suspected abduction, despite warning sent to pupil parents

POLICE have said that a recent report of an attempted abduction in West Berkshire had been investigated and found not to be a suspected abduction.

Last week, parents of pupils at Brimpton School received a test message from the school warning of an attempted abduction.

However, Chief Insp Lindsey Finch, of Thames Valley Police, has said that this was not a suspected abduction.

She said: "Subsequent reports have all been investigated as thoroughly as possible. This included reports of a car seen driving slowly up and down a road near a school.

"When officers questioned the vehicle's occupants, they were searching for a wedding.

"We take all of these reports seriously and will investigate any details that are provided to us.

"I am well aware of the genuine concern that these types of incidents generate and we continue to encourage people to report anything they think is suspicious, but also balance that with the thankful knowledge that these kinds of incidents are extremely rare.

"We continue to work closely with the local authority to ensure that accurate and timely information is relayed to teaching staff and parents across the area."

Despite numerous attempts Newburytoday.co.uk to contact Brimpton School about the warning sent to parenst, the school has refused to comment.

West Berkshire Council's press office told Newburytoday.co.uk last week that it was unaware on any such incident.
