Attempted murder charge follows Thatcham restaurant fracas

Accused due in court today

A MAN was due to appear in court today (Saturday) charged with attempted murder following an incident at the Szechuan Inn in Thatcham High Street.

Thirty-nine-year-old Quiang Gao, of Acorn Drive, Thatcham, was arrested by detectives on Thursday, May 28, following the fracas earlier that afternoon.

A 40-year-old man sustained serious head injuries which later required surgery during the incident.

The victim remains in hospital this morning in a serious but stable condition.

Ambulance and police officers were called at 1.07pm, with witnesses reportedly seeing one man sat in the street covered in blood.

A spokeswoman for the South Central Ambulance Service, Catherine Morrow, said that one man had sustained a serious head injury while another had been wounded in the arm.

Officers subsequently made enquiries and provided reassurance to local residents.

Det Sgt Neil Williams from Newbury Force CID said: "If anyone has any concerns, please speak to officers who are on patrol in the area, or call 101 for advice.”
