Newbury’s new choir sings loud and proud
Sing Louder Choir Christmas Concert
at St George’s Church Wash Common
on Thursday, December 14
Review by Jeanette Maskell
This was Sing Louder’s second Christmas concert since their formation in 2022. They have gone from strength to strength and this year produced an enjoyable varied programme accompanied on the piano by James Ellicott.
The choir were festively attired in their uniform T-shirts adorned with Christmas hats and tinsel. It was a shame therefore that two members sitting right in the front were dressed in black and rather detracted from the overall effect.
There were traditional carols beautifully sung with distinct harmonies and descants. Christmas songs which included audience participation, (during which a little boy; who knew all the words sang his heart out, thoroughly enjoying every minute) a medley from The Polar Express and a delightful arrangement of Let it Snow. The soloists, Lisa McGee, Amanda Maskell and Linda Ling were all in fine voice and gave creditable performances.
Breaking up the singing was a humorous Christmas poem written and performed by Daniel Maskell, and snippets of information about each song given by choirmaster Hannah Maskell.
This was a fun packed evening of entertainment and I hope to see them continue to flourish in 2024.
