Writing SATs results down in West Berkshire
Year six SATs results in West Berkshire show writing levels have dropped.
The figures reflect the national average drop in standards to 69 per cent, with West Berkshire in at 66.4 per cent.
The exams were not taken for the past two years due to the pandemic.
West Berkshire Council says it is working with schools to address issues.
Results for reading, maths and GPS (grammar, punctuation and spelling) are more or less on par with the national average.
Dominic Boeck (Con, Aldermaston), West Berkshire’s executive member for education, children and young people said: “Teachers and school leaders have worked relentlessly in very challenging circumstances.
"High levels of absence due to Covid, for both staff and pupils, has had an impact on performance this year, but we have much that is positive within West Berkshire."
The Department for Education says it will not be publishing league tables.
