Thatcham charity fundraiser wins Greenham Trust Fundraising Award
A Thatcham disability charity has been awarded the Greenham Trust Fundraising Award in recognition of its fundraising efforts.
Matt Walburn, a long-time supporter of Swings & Smiles, was presented the award for his efforts to raise funds and awareness for the charity.
He raised £7,000 this year alone — bringing his overall fundraising contribution to £11,666.
Mr Walburn’s connection to the charity goes back more than a decade, to his daughter Georgia’s involvement with the charity, based in Lower Way.
CEO of Swings & Smiles Rhonda Nicklin said: “Matt’s fundraising efforts have been extraordinary.
“His commitment to ensuring that we can continue to enhance our services and support the local community is inspiring.
“For him to receive this recognition is truly special to all of us at Swings & Smiles.
"Most recently, Matt took on the challenge of the Summer Green Man Ultra Marathon, a gruelling 30-mile race across Bristol, which he completed with incredible determination.
“This is just one of the incredible challenges he has taken on to raise money for us.
“Matt is a true champion for our charity, and this award is a well-deserved acknowledgement of his commitment to improving the lives of disabled children and young people in our community.”
The funds raised by Mr Walburn will support Swings & Smiles' 14-19 year old programme, including 'Pulse,' a crucial service designed to help disabled teenagers transition smoothly into adulthood.
It will also help to create a dedicated fire pit area and teenage den, offering a much-needed social space for young people to connect and relax.
Swings & Smiles provides accessible play spaces for local disabled children, as well as respite care and support for their families.
