Award-winning author Jenny Pearson to open Kintbury St Mary's Primary School library
AWARD-winning children's author Jenny Pearson will officially open Kintbury St Mary Primary School's new library.
The Wiltshire-based writer promises a fun-filled event based around her new book, Grandpa Frank's Great Big Bucket List.
The book is described as the third hilarious and heart-warming adventure for young readers from Jenny Pearson, whose debut, The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates, was shortlisted for the Costa Children’s Book Award and the Waterstones Children’s Book Prize.
The story celebrates friendship, football and families.
Pupils and guests are invited to meet Jenny Pearson and find out what it’s really like being an author; to find out why Grandpa Frank is so grumpy, to enjoy a reading from the book and get tips on setting a world record.
Jenny Pearson will be visiting the school on Tuesday, February 8, between 1pm and 3pm.
The school's new library has been funded by the school community and is supported by the independent Hungerford Bookshop.
A spokeswoman for the event organisers, Fritha Lindqvist, said: "Primary school libraries are not a statutory requirement - they are in prisons - yet the statistics around children who read for pleasure in relation to their future socio-economic life successes are clear.
"It makes an enormous difference.
"That’s why this library opening – that the school has worked so hard to make happen – is great news."
