Awards for Thatcham junior wardens

The presentation evening was attended by senior members of Sovereign housing association, the neighbourhood wardens, the junior wardens and their families and friends.
The Neighbourhood Wardens and junior wardens raised more than £2,500 to pay for the trip in the summer, during which the juniors engaged in activities which allowed them to complete their Youth Achievement Award workbooks.
The four-day residential course gave 10 junior wardens, half of whom were Sovereign residents, the opportunity to take part in personal development and confidence building activities.
The wardens were presented with their award by Thatcham mayor, Mike Cole.
Warden Dan Carter, who organised the trip, said: “The week was a great success. Working towards the award gave the junior wardens a sense of achievement at the end of the course. Many of the junior wardens will go on to complete a higher level of award in the future to build upon this.”
During the award evening, Sovereign’s Berkshire regional panel members, Ian Dunn and Judith Colby also presented the junior wardens with a cheque for £600. The donation from their community fund will help provide new uniforms for the junior wardens this year.
Ms Colby, said, “We are delighted to be supporting the junior wardens in this way. They are making a valuable contribution to the communities they live in and learning life skills along the way, which will remain with them well into adulthood.”
