B&M supports Newbury Soup Kitchen
B&M has opened in Newbury.
The national discount store opened on London Road on Saturday (October 7).
And it is already making its mark in the local community by supporting Newbury Soup Kitchen — a voluntary service providing support to homeless and vulnerable people.
Founder Meryl Praill and her colleague Louise Burns were invited to formally open the new store.
“We were extremely humbled to be asked to open the store,” said Mrs Praill.
“We are very pleased to hear the shop will be adding a Newbury Soup Kitchen donation bin inside for customers to donate directly to the charity.”
B&M has also provided the charity with a £250 voucher to use inside the store.
“We were the first customers allowed in and had a tour before it opened,” added Mrs Praill.
“Lou filled a shopping trolley with food to fill our Kettle Packs for people in emergency accommodation, the food sessions and take away parcels we provide each week.
“This food will help rough sleepers, our vulnerable housed community and people in temporary/emergency accommodation.”
The support is even more important as the charity expects the number of homeless people to rise over the winter months, she added.
