The stage is set
An exciting line-up of local musicians will take to the stage in Victoria Park on Sunday for the first-ever Newbury Youth Fest.
The event, which is being billed as West Berkshire’s largest-ever free music festival for all ages, has been set up to celebrate and promote youth in Newbury and the surrounding area.
The festival will showcase the best of local talent alongside professional performers on three stages, with music ranging from rock and jazz, to folk and classical, and everything in between.
Headlining the BaxterStory Main Stage will be Hatty Keane, who supported JLS last year on their farewell tour and has been seen this year performing with some of the biggest names in the business, including Rudimental and Ellie Goulding.
Woolton Hill teenager Emma Lawrence, who saw her single One Way Road go straight into the Top 40 charts at number 34 earlier this year, will be another big-name performer.
One of the high lights of the day will be a performance by the hugely popular Thatcham-based group, The Mini Band.
The young rockers, who are all aged between 11 and 13, have received worldwide media attention, including from BBC, ITV and Sky, and also received a video response from Metallica praising them.

Double delight
It was first time lucky for two entrants at the 67th Burghclere and Newtown Horticultural Society Summer Flower Show last Saturday.
First-time entrant Mrs Sandra Whiting won the award for the Best Arrangement in Show.
Another new contestant, Mr Neil Niven, won the men’s cookery class, which had generated an increased number of entries.
The show, which was held at The Clere School, was opened by May Queen Catherine Mackie, who arrived in a 1964 Rover 95 belonging to Mr Nigel Giles and driven by his father-in-law, Mr David Izzard.
She was accompanied by attendant Kate McCulloch.
Visitors enjoyed exhibits in horticulture, floral art, cookery, craft, photography and children’s classes.

Riding camp
The Craven Hunt branch of the Pony Club held a successful junior camp at Brockhurst School, Mariston, last week, when about 60 children between the ages of seven and 13, attended daily, with their ponies.
They were divided into six rides, Mrs Lorna Payne and Mr Johnnie Jones taking the seniors, and the rest being taken by Mrs Hartley Russell, Mrs Baker, Mrs Plank, and Miss Marshall.
Work started at 10am, and went on until luncheon. Then came tack cleaning, lectures and swimming for those who wished, until 5pm.
Mrs John Pudden was camp commandant.
On Friday, each ride gave a small display for the benefit of parents, taking in the aspects of work done during camp, after which the children in each ride received rosettes for the various activities, including, riding, jumping, general helpfulness, progress, pony care and tack cleaning.
The cup for tack was won by Patsy Batsford and the pony care cup was shared between Jessica Fleming and Simon Sherlock.
On Saturday, Mrs Williams, district commissioner, organised a simple one day event at Brockhurst.
An elementary dressage test was followed by cross-country and show jumping.
