Bad weather disrupts local rail travel

According to South West Trains heavy rain and strong winds of up to 60mph were disrupting services, with high winds blowing debris and trees across tracks.
Evening peak services between Waterloo and Reading are affected, with seven of these services cancelled today (Mon).
Currently (4.15pm Mon) a tree is blocking lines between Basingstoke and Salisbury, affecting the Whitchurch (Basingstoke/Salisbury) service.
Tomorrow/Christmas Eve, first train services may be run as ‘route proving’ trains (empty trains) on affected sections of the rail network, to check no obstructions are on the track.
Customers were advised to only travel this afternoon (Monday Dec 23) if absolutely necessary and to check the latest rail information before travelling.
Trains have been running at “significantly reduced speeds” according to South West Trains, from 1pm today (Mon) and until at least 6am tomorrow (Christmas Eve) across the entire South West Trains network.
