Balaclava-clad robbers threaten restaurant staff at gunpoint

Two men made off with money from West Berkshire fish and chip shop

BALACLAVA-clad burglars burst into a fish and chip shop in Tilehurst before threatening staff at gunpoint last night (Sun).

Two men entered the Lemon Plaice fish shop in Norcot Road via a back door shortly after 8.20pm.

They threatened two members of staff with what is believed to have been a firearm similar to a pistol. The offenders then placed money in a bag before leaving.

The first offender is white, and was wearing a thick grey woollen hooded top, black trainers with a thick white rim around their edge, a black hat and was carrying a bag.

The second offender, who was carrying a gun, was shorter than the first and was wearing a dark grey jumper with a hood, black gloves and a black balaclava.

A scene watch is currently in place at the shop.

Investigating officer Det Con Emma Smith, from Reading Force CID, said: “We are currently investigating the circumstances of this robbery. I would like to appeal to anyone who has any information about the incident or who saw anyone acting suspiciously in the area at around the time of the robbery to contact police.

“Anyone with any concerns or information can approach an officer in the area or call our non-emergency number 101.”
