Banksy-style artwork making fun of the Queen in Bucklebury

A Banksy-style artwork poking fun at the Queen has appeared (and disappeared) in Kate Middleton's village

A NEW Banksy-esque graffiti cut-out showing the Queen holding a gun appeared in Chapel Row this morning (Tuesday), just minutes away from the Middleton residence.

But by midday, the artwork in Bucklebury had been removed, perhaps suffering the wrath of residents who did not agree with the sentiment it expressed.

The piece had portrayed the Queen driving a small, two-door car, whilst grasping a large pistol. The car carried a Neighbourhood Watch symbol and was ridden with bullet holes.

Though copying Banksy's style, the plywood cut-out was signed by another artist using a graffiti tag that appeared to read 'Swat'.

Banksy, the reclusive North London graffiti artist, normally creates his works on the sides of buildings, but apart from that, the style, appearing to be prefabricated and sprayed using a stencil, appeared to match that of the internationally renowned artist.

The irreverent nature of the subject matter also fits the repertoire of the controversial artist who once created an image of a police officer sniffing a long line of cocaine.

The cut-out was placed on display in the open area at the junction of The Avenue and The Common, opposite The Bladebone Inn, sometime between last night and this morning (Monday).

The landlord of The Bladebone Inn, Simon Kelly, said: “I was up at about 8am to take my daughter to work when I saw it.

“It's quite clever, but I don't think it is a Banksy.”

However, when it was suggested that it may be expressing anti-royalist sentiment, his view changed.

“It could be anti-royalist, in which case I will take it down. I'm going to discuss it with the others and then decide.”

Within two hours, the artwork had disappeared, but members of staff at The Bladebone Inn insisted said that they were not responsible for removing it.
