Barn destroyed in Hungerford arson attack

ARSONISTS are believed to be responsible for a blaze which destroyed a wooden barn.

The incident happened around 3pm on Friday, May 19, at Sanhan Green, Hungerford.

Four fire engines attended but the barn, which had been home to a nesting barn owl, was completely destroyed.

Owner Adrian Gilmour said thousands of pounds worth of equipment and some ancient timber inside was lost.

He said several youths had been seen in the area and that arson was suspected.

Mr Gilmour added: “It’s all part of Hungerford’s ongoing crime wave, unfortunately.

“I’m just thankful no one was hurt and there was no livestock involved, but arson is a very worrying thing.”

Anyone with information should contact the police via the non emergency 101 number.
