Battle Proms returns to Highclere Castle this weekend
The Highclere Castle Battle Proms is back, and better than ever, say organisers.
This Saturday (August 3), the popular open-air picnic concert returns to Highclere Castle in North Hampshire — and is expected to entertain thousands with music and spectacular displays.
This year’s programme is packed with classical favourites from Elgar’s Nimrod, accompanied by a moving Spitfire display from the legendary Grace Spitfire, to the Light Cavalry Overture with a musical ride from the Worcestershire Cavalry.
Guests can also enjoy listening to Tchaikovsky’s 1812 Overture and Beethoven’s Battle Symphony — both with groundshaking live cannon fire — along with flag-waving and singalong finale under a sky of fireworks.
Battle Proms marketing manager, Emma Dexter, said: “In true proms style, we invite our audience to promenade around the concert arena.
“The fabulous team from MK Dancers will be there to teach you to Stroll, Charleston or Jive so you can step out in style to the gorgeous harmonies of The Battle Proms Belles, our answer to The Andrews Sisters.
“And we’re thrilled to welcome very special guest Winstan, the UK’s go-to Winston Churchill lookalike, plus his fabulous entourage and authentic vintage car to join us at Highclere Castle.”
The highlight of any picnic proms is how the audience will be taken on a musical journey through iconic pieces from film, TV and the musicals.
What better way to enjoy The Downton Abbey theme than played by a full orchestra.
The audience will also be able to meet the world famous Red Devils, the British Army’s official parachute display team, and members of the Napoleonic Association, who bring the ‘Age of Elegance’ to life at The Battle Proms.
Families are invited to bring their own picnics and drinks into the auditorium.
